The Lord had a word for me. I hope you don’t mind me sharing it. I think it might help someone else.
People are naturally analytical, some more than others. We are taught, throughout our formative years, to analyze everything. Those with higher analytical ability tend to get further on in life… in the natural.
When it comes to the supernatural, analysis can be a terrible distraction. Thinking can get in the way of believing, and some of us simply think too much.
For example: It is not necessary to accurately delineate, diagram, and describe the parts of a Christian identified in Scripture (e.g., heart, mind, soul, and strength). In fact, like many mysteries in God’s kingdom, it may be impossible. The Scientific Method is not fit for supernatural investigations and outcomes.
Just to make the point, Scripture speaks of both the heart and the mind as thinking instruments.
Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Philippians 3:15
But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? Matthew 9:4
The Old Testament regularly interchanges “heart” and “mind”. So, when do I think with my heart, and how do I do that? Can I also think with my soul? See what I mean?
Based on my personal experience, our carnal mind uses analysis to distract us from a more important matter: Whoever is born of God need only love the LORD with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength. They – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – will do the rest.
…for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13
Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” Mark 1:17
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2Corinthians 3:18
Many Christians are trapped by a subconscious deception that something must be understood to be true; and the more understanding one has of something, the more real and applicable it must be. This may be true in the natural realm, but it is absolutely false in regards to the supernatural.
Now, seeking to understand is not the issue; in and of itself, analysis is not wrong. Christians are encouraged to seek after God (Matthew 7:7) and to search out the hidden matters of His kingdom (Proverbs 25:2). However, seeking and searching must be exercised by grace, through faith. It must be led by the Holy Spirit. Humanistic reasoning is the Devil’s playground. Our carnal mind will lead us away from God at every turn.
Seek and search to love God and you will understand mysteries you cannot explain. Seek and search to understand and you will be forever distracted, deceived, and discouraged. God will continue to love you, but you will miss the heavenly joy of loving Him in return.
God bless you with grace and faith to think and do all things for the love of God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Humbly yours and forever His,
Rob
