Strong Foundations

The Lord Jesus Christ is making disciples and building His church. Being the wise maker and builder that He is, foundations are important to Him. He will not make or build on a weak or broken foundation.

Furthermore, the house that stands in the coming storm is the house that is built on a firm foundation (Luke 6:47-49). As we participate with Jesus in making and building, it is imperative that we consider the foundation we are attempting to build on.

Many have had much to say about the pitiable state of the Western church.  Many are doing much to alleviate the issues of reduced participation and passion.  We have seen some success; but, on the whole, the church of North America and Europe is in crisis; and the crisis is spreading.

This series intends to address a major cause of our deterioration:  The neglect and loss of Biblical foundations.

It is never too late to begin building and/or restoring our Biblical foundations. Here is a brief introduction to the Lost Foundations Series.

The church in the West has become self-centered, even humanistic. Consciously or subconsciously, with intent or not, we have come to think, believe and act like the story is about us.

There is a fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is more than any one person, fellowship or denomination knows; for God’s ways and thoughts are far above our own.

Jesus encouraged us to FIRST count the cost (Luke 14:28). This is a critical distinction. We harm and jeopardize new believers when we present God’s plan for their salvation as cost-less.

Making disciples is called the Great Commission for a reason. Filled with the greatness of the God’s purpose, plan and power for ministry, it invites us to become involved in the greatness of God’s story.

Repentance from dead works is much more than turning away from the sins of your past. Repentance is a process that continues throughout our maturation as followers of Jesus Christ.

Faith towards God may be the most elementary of the elementary principles. However, there is more here than you might expect; more than you may have been taught.

Each baptism includes a work of God that is effectual in the process of our salvation. The key question becomes, “What is God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit trying to accomplish; and how do I participate in that work?”

There are at least five Biblical purposes for the laying on of hands. Given the lack of Holy Spirit power, gifts and fruit in the church today, it is time we come to better understand, believe and practice this principle.

Far more than “sweet-by-and-by”, the resurrection of the dead is a present spiritual reality. Those that have died with Christ are subsequently resurrected in Him – God’s grace, appropriated by our faith in His continuing work.

Eternal judgment is not something we are waiting for; though it does include two future judgment events. Eternal is without beginning and end. God is judging us right now; including our response to these foundations.

For many, the Holy Spirit is the great mystery of the Christian Trinity. This does not have to be so. In fact, He may be the most relational of the three Godhead personalities; and He wants to be known.
