Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5
We’ve written quite a bit about the LORD’s ways over the past thirteen months – approximately forty articles on fourteen ways the LORD has given His people to live. The first article can be found here. The latest series – God’s Way for Being Holy – begins here.
We hope to put these into booklet form and/or a new book. Please let me know if you would be interested in funding such a project. In the meantime, I pray the following encourages you to pursue His ways.
In a recent conversation, it occurred to me that Psalm 37:5 may be taken out of context and consequently misunderstood. Reading the verse by itself might lead someone to think God invites us to give Him our ways so He can bring them to pass.
I suspect some of you are saying, “Of course that’s not what it means.” But is that the way we live? Or, could our subconscious and carnally influenced mind be playing tricks on us?
Taken in context, particularly with verse four, we learn that God is encouraging us to trade our ways for His so He can give us the desires of our hearts. Let that sink in for a moment. Consider the ramifications of insisting on our way as we walk out our faith with God.
Insisting on our way stands between the desire of our heart and the LORD bringing it to pass. Furthermore, our unwillingness to surrender inhibits the amazing promise of verse six:
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
If ever we needed the LORD to bring forth our righteousness as the light, now is that time. Soon (and very soon), in these dark and stormy days, we will be solely dependent on Him to bring forth our justice as the noonday. For the Christian in pursuit of God, this should be sobering (but not fearful) news.
Be encouraged, for the LORD acts on behalf of those who wait on Him (Isaiah 64:4). He is waiting for us to trust Him and His ways – to exchange our ways for His, that He might show Himself strong on our behalf (2Chronicles 16:9).
Lastly…
The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 1Peter 4:7
Please join me in soundly judging your ways with a sober spirit. Ask the LORD, “Where do I need to exchange my ways for yours?”
Be encouraged, for He loves speaking with His children. As you pray for yourself, include me and others whom you love.
God bless you with grace for sound judgment and sober spirit.
Have a strong day in the Lord,
Rob
