Beginnings

Greetings, Brothers and Sisters in Christ (and other interested parties),

Welcome to the “inLight Adventure”, sponsored by inLight Consulting (check the About page).  The purpose of this blog is to provide a point of contact with supporters of inLight, and to serve as a discussion forum on topics related to spiritual leadership and the transformation of the church in America.

I hope you find the chronicles of this great adventure to be incredibly exciting – okay, at least interesting.  For those of you that are supporting the ministry, I am blessed that you would visit us here.  I hope that you will find direction for your prayers and truth to share with your family and friends.

When the LORD called me out of the corporate world into full time ministry, it took me some time before realizing that I was not going to be allowed (at least initially) to leverage my 25 years of IT experience.  No working with Chick-fil-A as their Enterprise Architect.  No working with Christian ministries and businesses to develop IT strategies.

When I was finally willing and able to listen to His purposes for the rest of my life, He directed me to His concern for Christian Leaders – reminding me of the burden He had shared with me several times in the past.  It is a burden for those that are discouraged, disheartened and frustrated as ministry leaders.  He called me to minister to them by encouraging them that the key to joyous, rewarding ministry required three basic things:

  1. Surrender to His purpose for their life and ministry;
  2. Personal and corporate sacrifice to His plan; and,
  3. Humble submission to the Holy Spirit’s power, counsel and gifts.

“Are You sure, LORD?” was my regular reply.  On four successive occurances, He graciously downloaded more of what He intended for me to do (His plan) and brought to my mind a number of associated core convictions.  And thus began inLight Consulting.  On one occasion, He made it clear that Christians Leaders in prominent positions would be our primary audience; providing the following convictions:

  1. The LORD’s Church extends beyond the confines of the local church.
  2. If you are a Christian business leader, you and your company are as responsible to His Kingdom as any church.
  3. Christian Business Leaders are in a unique position to initiate and lead spiritual transformation in their communities.
  4. The LORD is raising up courageous Christian Business Leaders; many are ready to wade into the battle, but don’t know how to begin.
  5. It is time for the Marketplace Movement to move to the “Go” stage.

Then, through a very unusual circumstance (for another time), the LORD introduced me to the prospect of community transformation as the vehicle to engage Christian Leaders and their organizations.  He has been validating and strengthening this vision since November.

And so, the adventure has begun.  Spiritually, this has been the most challenging and rewarding time of my life.  The old hymn is right:

“Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

He is perfectly trustworthy.  He rewards trust and obedience with peace and revelation.  I have not found the bottom of the well of peace He has provided; and, believe me, I have looked deep and hard.  The resting has been difficult, but a necessary discipline that He is working into me.  It has been awesome to see Him orchestrate events while teaching me to wait on Him.  He is the perfect plan maker, and manager.

In future postings, I will share the process of the LORD’s calling (the Pre-Beginnings; to give Him the glory), and discuss how we are putting this into practice.  In the meantime, I pray that you will surrender to His purpose, agree to sacrifice for His plan, and humbly submit to the power of the Holy Spirit.  He is waiting for you to begin your great adventure with Him.

Dying to see His glory,

Rob
