Giving Thanks

Giving Thanks

What shall I render to the LORD
For all His benefits toward me?
I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the LORD
Now in the presence of all His people. Psalm 116:12-14

I have never done this during Thanksgiving week, but feel particularly encouraged to give thanks to the LORD for the following.

  1. He is long-suffering and persistence with me.
  2. Salvation is a process.
  3. I am able to read.
  4. Chastening, rebuke, and scourging from a loving Father.
  5. A life partner who is my best friend.
  6. People who love me more than I deserve.
  7. Changing weather.
  8. Feeling close without close proximity (though I miss the hugs).
  9. New paradigms.
  10. Eternal perspective.
  11. Prayer (and all that means).
  12. My parents taught me to waste not.

Of course, there are oh so many more, for “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning (James 1:17).

But twelve is a good number, and these are the first thanks givings that came to mind. Share yours, if you are so inclined. It will warm your heart.

I am also encouraged to ask you to join me in praying for those we call brother and sister in Christ who do not have what we may take for granted. He has entrusted us with their care.

God bless you with grace and courage to love the brethren, sacrificially and extravagantly.

Humbly yours and forever His,

Rob
