At inLight Consulting, our mission is to encourage, edify, and equip Workplace Leaders to become disciple makers and transformation agents.
Isaiah 58:13-14 contains some incredible promises. I read it every Sunday morning. Check it out and consider the following:
The way we remember and honor the Sabbath Day is a shadow of our appreciation for the LORD’s Sabbath Rest. Do we call it a delight and honor Him in it? On that day, do we do our own ways, find our own pleasures, and speak our own words? Is the Sabbath Day still important to us?
Remembering the Sabbath Day was important enough to the LORD to include it in the Ten Commandments. Many who read this will be quick to say, “But Rob, we are no longer under the Law.”
Of course, of course! Praise God for the work of the Lord of the Sabbath! We walk in liberty. However, we are not free to do as we please. We are bondservants. Our pleasure should be His.
Let’s be careful not to confuse ourselves. Would we say that the LORD is no longer concerned with murder, adultery and worshipping other gods? Of course not! The Ten Commandments are still important to the LORD.
This raises some interesting questions. Could it be that our neglect of one commandment has led to back-sliding with the others? Is it possible that our failure to honor the Sabbath Day inhibits our pro-life message? Are we hypocrites to push for movies without the vain use of God’s name?
What must our children be thinking?
Furthermore, we must recognize and acknowledge that this is more than a practical, observable issue. As with all things important to God, the spiritual ramifications of this are much more significant.
What must the LORD be thinking?
We are not required by law to observe the Sabbath Day. It is not a requirement. It is an opportunity. Observing the Sabbath Day is an opportunity to practice the Sabbath Rest.
The Sabbath Day is also a test. Can we, for just one day, honor the LORD? Can we, for just one day, not do our own ways, nor find our own pleasures, nor speak our own words?
We must be diligent to enter the Sabbath Rest (Hebrews 4:11). Can we be diligent for just one day? If not for one day, then what will eternity bring?
In closing, I feel I must add that this is not so much about how we should respond. The real question is: Do we have the heart to respond at all? This matter of the Sabbath Day is easily ignored, even dismissed. We’ve certainly made a habit of it. I think we do so at our peril, and the peril of those that are watching us.
Updates and Prayer Requests
The Board asked me to revisit and recast our 2-year vision, strategy and goals. Here’s what I have heard so far:
1. Develop/improve capabilities;
2. Be transformed;
3. Keep writing;
4. Focus on Workplace Leaders that get it; and,
5. Explore opportunities as they present themselves.
Please continue to pray for ears to hear and heart to respond. I have never been as excited as I am for inLight’s future – its impact for God’s kingdom and glory. Please let me know if you are interested in more detail.
There are three specific resource needs that we appreciate you praying about:
1. Help with promotion of the articles God is using me to write;
2. Help with eBook publishing; and,
3. Help with fundraising.
Continue to pray for the Workplace Leaders you know – for their transformation into mighty men and women of the Kingdom.
Last month, I asked you to pray for my deliverance from the world’s distractions. It is surprisingly difficult. Your prayers have been effectual and are still much appreciated.
I strongly encourage you to ensure your prayers are foremost for the glory of God; and that you first worship Him. He is the Giver of all good things. He deserves our focused attention.
