We have written much about the storms of this decade and beyond. Short of the Tribulation, this promises to be the most storm, chaos, and crisis filled season any of us will face in our lifetimes. The Storms Have Only Just Begun was published in 2022 to help Christians prepare. A project currently in the works, A Christian Response to the Metacrisis, suggests the impact that prepared Christians might have on the institutional forms which will emerge – including that of the church. Preparatory articles for the new book are available on our website.
God uses storms, chaos, and crises as instruments of our transformation. Lately, He has encouraged me to consider the impacts and outcomes of transformation in proportion to the severity and length of this current chaotic season. Reasonably, one should expect greater chaos to produce greater impacts and outcomes – the hope and encouragement we will need to continue running the race when the storms get stronger still.
So, for your ongoing hope and encouragement, here are a few proportionally greater impacts and outcomes we can anticipate from the storms, chaos, and crises God has allowed (or created) in this season:
- Change in thinking – We are transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Consequently, we should be thinking more and higher kingdom thoughts when this season ends. Consider the mysteries God will reveal to us individually and corporately. Additionally, we should anticipate thinking more in unity with the mind of Christ, and one another.
- Increase in faith – Faith is one of the primary things worked into us through transformation, as we learn to trust God proportionally more in the storms, chaos, and crises. Increased faith appropriates increased grace, grace for proportionally greater works.
- Manifestation of God’s glory – God uses transformation to prepare us for the good work He has created for our participation and His glory (Ephesians 2:10; Matthew 5:16). We should anticipate greater works and greater glory, something like John 14:12 – Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
- Overcoming the “strongmen” – Another outcome of transformation is our overcoming the addictions, emotional injuries, and demonic oppressions that have plagued us. We should anticipate a greater depth of healing and deliverance.
- Appearance of Incongruity – Perhaps the most dramatic outcome with be the change in our character and capabilities. C. S. Lewis wrote about it in this way: “God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man. It is not like teaching a horse to jump better and better but like turning a horse into a winged creature. Of course, once it has got its wings, it will soar over fences which could never have been jumped and thus beat the natural horse at its own game. But there may be a period, while the wings are just beginning to grow, when it cannot do so: and at that stage the lumps on the shoulders—no one could tell by looking at them that they are going to be wings—may even give it an awkward appearance” (Mere Christianity).
The eschatological milestone found in Revelation 19:6-8 supports our encouragement and hope for greater transformational impacts and outcomes.
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For theLord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
As most thoughtful Christians believe, the time for the Lamb’s wife to make herself ready is now alarmingly short, and there is much making left to be accomplished. Dramatic transformation across the Body of Christ should be anticipated and pursued, with hope and encouragement for proportionally great impacts and outcomes.
Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 2Peter 3:11-12
God bless you with increased hope, encouragement, and courage to make the most of the storms for Him, yourself, and those entrusted to your care.
Have a strong day in the Lord,
Rob
