1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits. Hebrews 6:1-3
Has God permitted you to “go on to perfection”? In the previous chapter, the writer of Hebrews describes those who will not go on as babes desiring milk – immature in the faith. Are you still in “elementary” school?
To move on to the mature things of Christ, one must first come to understand the elementary principles. If God gave you a test, would you pass? Just what do you know and believe about:
- Repentance from dead works and faith toward God
- The doctrine of baptisms (notice the plural)
- Laying on of hands
- Resurrection of the dead
- Eternal judgment
Could you pass God’s elementary exam regarding these principles of Christ? If not, pray that God will give you a love of the truth. Without it, you and those you love are in peril of deception and apostasy.
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons… 1Timothy 4:1
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2Thessalonians 2:9-12
