Who Can be Against You?

I’ve been reading through Romans this month – continually reminded why this is a favorite to so many. It has been a blessed journey. One particular verse caught my attention:

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31

As I passed through this familiar verse, I wondered, “What are ‘these things’ that so inspired Paul to write such a bold confession? Going back to the first verse of the chapter, here is an exciting collection of truth about the God who is for His children:

  • He now has no condemnation toward you
  • The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made you free from the law of sin and death
  • God condemned sin in your flesh by sending His own Son
  • The righteous requirement of the law has been fulfilled
  • You walk and live according to the Spirit
  • To be spiritually minded is life and peace
  • You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit
  • The Spirit of God and Christ dwells in you
  • The Spirit is life
  • He (the Father) raised Christ from the dead
  • He will also give life to your mortal bodies
  • You are a debtor—but not to the flesh
  • You can put to death the deeds of the body
  • You received the Spirit of adoption
  • You are a son/daughter of God, and can cry out, “Abba, Father.”
  • The Spirit Himself bears witness with your spirit
  • You are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ
  • You suffer with Him that you may be glorified together
  • The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in you
  • The creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God
  • The creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty
  • The whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs
  • You also have the firstfruits of the Spirit
  • You eagerly wait for the adoption, the redemption of our body
  • You were saved in this hope
  • You eagerly wait for it with perseverance
  • The Spirit also helps in your weaknesses
  • The Spirit Himself makes intercession for you
  • He who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit
  • He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God
  • All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose
  • He foreknew you
  • He predestined you
  • He called you
  • He justified you
  • He glorified you
  • He is the firstborn among many brethren
  • You are to be conformed to the image of His Son

I hope this has inspired you to walk in the truth that God is for you; and no one can be against you. Just remember, we battle not against flesh and blood, but with… So, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. He is able to do more than we can think or imagine! Hallelujah!!!

His and yours,

Rob
