Apostolic Prayers for Oneself

Apostolic Prayers for Oneself

To Know God’s Calling and Provision

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:15-23

The Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for encouraging me to come to You as a child. God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, I pray that You would give me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. May the eyes of my understanding be enlightened; that I may know what is the hope of Your calling on my life, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in me, and what is the exceeding greatness of Your power toward me. I pray according to the working of Your mighty power – the same power You worked in Christ when You raised Him from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

To be Strengthened, to Know, and to be Filled

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21

The Prayer

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, I pray that You would grant me, according to the riches of Your glory, to be strengthened with might through Your Spirit in my inner man, that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith; that I, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know Christ’s love which passes knowledge; that I may be filled with all the fullness of God. Father, I pray knowing that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I can ask or think, according to the power that works in me. To You be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

For the Completion of God’s Work

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:3-11

The Prayer

Father God, I make this request of you in joy and thanksgiving for our fellowship through the gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray in confident belief, that You will complete the good work You have begun in me. I trust in your heart’s desire for me and the grace you have given me to partake of your divine nature. I pray my love will abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that I will approve the things that are excellent, that I will be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, and that I will be filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to Your glory and praise. Amen.

For Full Knowledge of God’s Will

We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints; because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth; …For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:3-14

The Prayer

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for my faith in Christ Jesus, and for my love for all the saints. Thank You for the hope which You have laid up for me in heaven, and for the word of the truth of the gospel that You have planted in my heart. Thank You for the fruit and grace that is evident in my life. For this reason I ask you to fill me with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that I may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of You; that I would be strengthened with all might, according to Your glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; that I would give thanks to You who has qualified me to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in the light. I praise You for delivering me from the power of darkness and conveying me into Your Son’s kingdom, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Amen.
