Newsletter – Discovering Your Disciple Makers

Our new book, The Storms Have Only Just Begun, is now available at Barnes and Noble and other popular platforms. Its purpose is to encourage and enable Christians to become houses who will stand in the relentless storms of the decade. Houses that stand will serve as God’s refuge, encouragement, and wisdom for family, friends, and fellowships who have lost theirs.

Please be sure to check out the ministry updates and prayer requests below. God is up to some exciting things with inLight, and we need your prayers. But first, a few words about being made a disciple of Jesus Christ.

I began seriously pursuing a relationship with God approximately forty-five years ago. During that time, He has been faithful to put disciple makers in my life – always at critical moments. I did not recognize several of them as disciple makers at the time, and I suspect several did not know they were being used. But I would not be the man I am today had they not obeyed God’s call to go and make disciples.

Over the last twenty years, God has used several men in more significant ways to make me a disciple of Jesus Christ. One of them was actually living at the time. Yes, you read that right. God has used several deceased men to disciple me. Lately, He has been sending Andrew Murray, A. W. Tozer, and Francois Fenelon to speak into my life.

The point is: Disciple makers come to us in various forms. We should be careful about our paradigms regarding the subject and God’s dynamic ways for making us into His Son’s disciples.

A second important point: Disciple making and teaching are not the same thing. Murray, Tozer, and Fenelon impact my life, not because I want to know what they know, but because I want to live in the truth they have to share – truth that will make me free in Christ (John 8:32)… truth that the Holy Spirit can use to transform me into the image of the glory of the Lord (2Corinthians 3:18)… truth that encourages me to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow after Christ (Luke 9:23).

Wherever I have the opportunity to speak on this subject, God always leads me to share a particular encouragement: Generally speaking, disciple makers don’t go around advertising themselves. If you desire to grow in your relationship with God, in faith, and in the truth, if you desire to be discipled, you will have to approach the person God identifies (another important point) and ask them.

In the meantime, I offer the following texts God has recently used to draw, convict, and encourage me:

  • With Jesus Christ in the School of Prayer – Andrew Murray.
  • The Seeking Heart – Francois Fenelon.
  • Tozer on Christian Leadership – A. W. Tozer (compiled by Ron Eggert).

Please let me know if you desire a recommendation on another topic. God has blessed me with the desire and time to read some incredibly insightful books. I would love to pass on the blessing.

God bless you with many disciple makers – both alive and deceased.

Have a strong day in the Lord,

Rob

P.S. Please let me know if you would like to begin receiving our weekly articles – to experience the kingdom truths God uses me to write. You can also access those at the inLight Adventure blog. This year, we have been focused on “The Ways of God for…”. We are currently exploring Jesus’ command to “strive to enter”.

Ministry Updates and Prayer Requests

Preparations for the Douglas County Trusted Advisor Forum (TAF) are progressing in a more encouraging fashion. The spiritual development curriculum (from The Map Maker) has been finalized and several businessmen have committed to joining our first group. I am confident God will draw the twelve He desires. Please pray for these men, that they would clearly hear the Father’s call, and for my discernment during the recruitment and interview process.

Please share The Message with the Christian workplace leaders you believe are hungry for more out of this life.

I am very excited to report two additional, important developments:

  1. A dear friend has agreed to help prepare the revised edition of The Map Maker. This will be the first book we give away to the Douglas County TAF members. I am rejoicing over the opportunity to give them a much-improved edition. Please pray for Judy’s work.
  2. The new inLight website is up!! Now that we have a good design running on a stable platform, I can make some necessary changes to the messaging (to reflect God’s renewed mission for inLight). Please pray for the time and wisdom to complete this soon, and perhaps someone to lend a hand.

As we mentioned above, The Storms Have Only Just Begun is out. The publisher has asked me to write an article “About the Book” to be shared on The Christian Post website and to all their newsletter subscribers. Please pray for the marketing effort, that we would reach as many Christians as possible with this important and timely word.

Please join me in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, who are under tremendous persecution from the radical Muslims there. Please pray with me for their encouragement, protection, and faithfulness in the face of severe trial and tribulation. From my reading, I understand they are also praying for us.

Continue to pray for the workplace leaders you know – for their transformation into mighty men and women of God; that they would boldly proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let me know how I can help you minister to them (we have tons of resources for you to share).

The Lord has graciously given Beth and I renewed vision and purpose as a couple in this new season of Beth’s retirement. Your prayers have been effectual in this regard. Please keep praying for us and our children as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Partnering with inLight Consulting

God’s purpose for inLight Consulting is beyond human capability. We are desperately dependent on Him; and would have it no other way. We are grateful for the continued support of those that trust God to use this ministry to further His kingdom. Please pray for our vision and mission.

Share the truths you find here with the leaders in your life; it will make them free.

God bless you with wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him; and may He give you the grace and courage to walk in the work He has prepared for you.

Humbly yours and forever His,

Rob
